Ambassadors also have the opportunity to share their own work, updates, and action alerts on 5 Gyres’ digital platforms.

    • Only use facts found on 5Gyres.org to present information about the organization and our mission of reducing plastic pollution; check with 5 Gyres staff first if you would like to include additional information in presentations.

    • Allow 5 Gyres to use your name, voice, photographs, and videos on our website, social media, and newsletters.

    • Understand that 5 Gyres does not reimburse Ambassadors for any expenses related to participating in this program.

    • Use the #5GyresAmbassador hashtag and tag photos with @5Gyres on social media to amplify your message as a 5 Gyres Ambassador.

    • If you are unable to follow the guidelines in this agreement, 5 Gyres retains the right to revoke your participation in the Ambassador Program. Acceptance in the 5 Gyres Ambassador program is conditional upon email signature of this Agreement.

FEATURED AMBASSADOR: MAX PENNINGTON

Max Pennington, a Case Western Reserve University alum and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, is the CEO & Co-Founder of Cleveland-based CLEANR, a company focused on reducing microplastic pollution and exposure through advanced filtration technology. Inspired by nature, Max co-developed CLEANR’s patented VORTX technology, which earned a CES Innovation Award and was first applied to the company’s external washing machine filter designed to capture over 90% of microplastics shed from clothing during laundry, the largest source of microplastic pollution.

ZARA ZUNIGA

A biologist from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, with over six years of experience working on marine conservation and plastic pollution research in the Western Caribbean.

Led a successful #SkipTheStuff campaign that resulted in a foodware accessories ordinance in New York City.

AMBASSADOR ACTION FUND

THE ACTION FUND SUPPORTS 5 GYRES AMBASSADORS IN WORK THAT ALIGNS CLOSELY WITH OUR MISSION AND FOCUS AREAS: SCIENCE, ADVOCACY, AND TRASHBLITZ. AWARDEES RECEIVE FINANCIAL STIPENDS, AS WELL AS 1:1 SUPPORT FROM 5 GYRES TEAM MEMBERS.

ADVOCACY: KATIE ABARE

Katie mobilized her community to take action against plastic pellets (AKA nurdles) that are threatening the health of local marshland ecosystem in Charleston, South Carolina.

SCIENCE: DIEGO ARREOLA FERNANDEZ

Diego’s research project, Garbage-less Groceries, focused on reducing single-use plastics in grocery stores, specifically produce bags and the external packaging of store-brand products.

TRASHBLITZ: ANNA GALIPEAU

Anna led a successful shoreline TrashBlitz in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area in order to better understand sources of trash and develop strategies to prevent future pollution.
